About us

Not just pain free. Stronger than before.

FizioFlex is a centre that brings rehabilitation and training together. Behind every plan are the people who do the work. Meet the team and the principles we work by.

About FizioFlex

From 2024 to today.

We started in 2024 as a small practice with one clear conviction: rehabilitation and training belong together. We grew through our work with clients, from the first people we brought back from chronic pain to athletes who wanted to leave rehabilitation stronger than they entered it.

Today we are a team covering physiotherapy, one-on-one training and sports massage, across several locations in Zagreb and online.

Principles

How we work.

These seven principles guide every treatment we give and every plan we build for a client.

  1. 01

    Gradual loading, not rest

Rest is not the answer. Prolonged inactivity leads to a loss of tissue capacity. We stay active within the limits of your symptoms and build from there.

  2. 02

    Do not fear movement

Bending your spine, running and lifting are necessary and safe movements. We do not create needless fear about your body.

  3. 03

    More is not always better

Stress drives adaptation. The secret is in dosing it correctly, not in avoiding it.

  4. 04

    Pain has many causes

Pain is shaped by a great many factors: your beliefs, stress, sleep and lifestyle, not tissue damage alone. That is why we educate, not just treat.

  5. 05

    Individual plans, not templates

The range of normal, in movement, strength and posture, is far wider than people think. We build the plan around you.

  6. 06

    We follow the evidence

Our recommendations are backed by scientific literature, not by opinion or trends.

  7. 07

We guide rehab, we do not wage war

With support and understanding, without scare tactics or needless restrictions.

individual approach

Movement has always been my greatest fascination. Even as a child I wanted to know how the human body works, how it builds strength, speed and endurance, and why injury and pain happen at all. Today I turn that curiosity into practice every day, helping people move better, feel better and get back to doing what they love.

I am Matej Mlinarić, a physiotherapist (BSc) and fitness trainer with more than five years of experience and over 150 successful client relationships. I specialise in working with active recreational athletes, competitive athletes, and anyone who wants to get rid of pain, move better or improve their physical performance.

I do not believe in universal solutions, nor in passive methods as the main form of therapy. My approach is grounded in the biopsychosocial model and in current scientific understanding. Every rehabilitation or training plan is tailored to the person in front of me, to their goals, their capabilities and the way they live.

I believe movement is medicine when it is dosed correctly. That is why active rehabilitation, progressive loading and a gradual return to activity are the foundation of my work. The goal is not only to remove symptoms, but to increase the body's capacity so that it becomes more resilient to future demands.

Continuous education is an integral part of my work. Alongside my formal education I regularly attend professional courses from leading lecturers in tendinopathy, muscle injuries, biomechanics, pain science, rehabilitation of the spine, hip, knee and shoulder, and strength and conditioning for athletes. I believe I can only give my clients the best service if I keep learning and keep up with the science.

My greatest success is not when the pain goes away. The greatest success is when a person returns to training, to sport or to everyday life with more confidence, without limitations, and with the feeling that they can trust their own body.

Because physiotherapy is not just a job to me. It is a hobby, a passion and a calling.

individual approach

Sport has been part of my life since early childhood. Over the years I trained in gymnastics, water polo and wrestling, and today I focus mostly on strength training and running as a hybrid athlete. It was through my own experience that I learned just how much the human body can adapt when you approach it the right way.

I am an engineer by profession, but over the years I realised that what fulfils me most is working with people and solving problems related to movement, pain and physical performance. Today I apply that engineering way of thinking in my work with clients: I analyse the cause of the problem, look for individual solutions, and base my decisions on anatomy, biomechanics, physiology and current scientific understanding.

Today I am part of the FizioFlex team, where I work daily with recreational and competitive athletes through one-on-one training, the rehabilitation process and manual work. I completed my training as a fitness trainer and a certified course as a sports massage therapist, and I continually build on that knowledge through further education in biomechanics, muscle physiology, tendon injuries and strength and conditioning. I believe a good trainer never stops learning.

My own rehabilitation played a large part in shaping my approach. For almost two years I struggled with chronic pain in my patellar and Achilles tendons. At one point I could not walk for more than ten minutes without pain, could not drive a car, and could not train normally. Through a well-guided rehabilitation process I not only returned to everyday life, I started running again, set personal records in strength training and regained complete trust in my own body.

That experience taught me how important education, correct loading, patience and understanding the whole person are in the recovery process. It is exactly why I have a particular understanding for clients struggling with long-standing pain, injuries or uncertainty about returning to training.

I most often work with people returning to training after an injury, recreational athletes who want to train without pain, and athletes who want to improve their performance. Alongside my work at FizioFlex I also coach online clients, helping them build sustainable habits, become stronger and more confident in movement, and reach their goals over the long term.

I believe the best results come when trainer and client build a relationship based on trust, an individual approach, and the understanding that every body has its own story. My goal is not just to help you solve the problem you have right now, but to give you the knowledge, the security and the confidence to move without pain and enjoy it for many years to come.
